Residents in south-east Queensland are sweltering through a heatwave this morning as Brisbane is forecast to hit a top of 31 degrees, along with tops of 30 degrees on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. Residents of south-east Queensland are feeling the heat as temperatures soar this morning.
Brisbane reached a high of 31 degrees, while nearby coastal cities such as the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast are also forecast for 30 degree days. Heatwaves can be dangerous for vulnerable people, so it is important to stay hydrated and protected from the sun to remain safe in this extreme weather. Weather predictions often change, so locals should keep an eye on the forecasts throughout the day and check in on the elderly or sick who could have difficulty in these hotter temperatures.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a heatwave warning from Thursday 2 February 2023, with temperatures peaking towards the end of the week. Parts of the south-east are expected to experience extreme heat conditions.
The BOM warns that heatwaves can be dangerous and can lead to serious health risks such as dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. People should take precautions such as staying indoors during the hottest part of the day, drinking plenty of water and avoiding strenuous activities.
The Queensland Government has also issued advice on how to stay safe during a heatwave, including wearing light clothing, using air conditioning or fans and keeping curtains closed during the day. Unfortunately for Queenslanders there is no relief in sight yet, with temperatures set to remain high for days yet. The state is also bracing for a storm battering in some parts of the south-east.
With no overnight relief in sight it’s important that Queenslanders take extra care during this hot spell and follow safety advice from authorities.
