Tobacco shop targeted by alleged arsonists

A Melbourne tobacco shop owned by a notorious underworld identity has been targeted by suspected arsonists.  Firefighters were called to a smoke shop in Moonee Ponds, Melbourne, in the early hours of this morning after reports of a blaze. The fire is believed to have been started deliberately and police are now investigating whether it is linked to a burnt out car found nearby in Ascot Vale.

The store is owned by an infamous underworld figure, sparking speculation that the arson attack was targeted at him. Police have not yet confirmed whether this is the case.

The incident follows a spate of similar fires at smoke shops around Australia, including one in Mount Clear, Victoria that caused extensive damage and forced residents to evacuate. CCTV footage captured two black-clad men entering the store before it was set alight.

In another incident on Queensland’s Gold Coast, police released CCTV images of three people they believe were involved in an arson attack on a tobacconist.

Police are also searching for an alleged arsonist who set fire to a tobacco store in Ballarat last month.

This latest incident highlights the ongoing threat posed by arsonists targeting smoke shops across Australia. Police are urging anyone with information about these incidents to come forward and help them bring those responsible to justice.
