It’s something we do every day, but it turns out that many of us have been brushing our teeth the wrong way for years. According to a U.K dentist, there are several common mistakes people make when brushing their teeth that can lead to gum recession, tooth sensitivity, and weakened tooth enamel.
The most common mistake is using too much pressure when brushing. While it may seem like you’re getting your teeth cleaner by scrubbing harder, this can actually cause more damage than good. Over time, this can wear down the enamel on your teeth and leave them vulnerable to decay and cavities.
Another mistake is not replacing your toothbrush often enough. It’s recommended that you replace your toothbrush every three months or so in order to keep it clean and effective at removing plaque and bacteria from your mouth. Additionally, using a brush with hard bristles can also be damaging to your teeth as they can scratch away at the enamel on your teeth over time.
It’s also important to remember to brush all parts of your mouth, including the tongue and inner cheeks. Bacteria can build up in these areas just like on the surface of your teeth, so it’s important to give them a thorough cleaning as well. Finally, don’t forget to floss! Flossing helps remove food particles between the teeth that a toothbrush cannot reach and helps prevent gum disease and cavities.
