Teeth grinding can be caused by stress, airway issues and medication

It’s an uncomfortable and noisy habit that’s one of the most common in the world. Teeth grinding can cause irreparable damage and long term health problems. Now, a dentist is urging people to get help, as soon as they notice the signs.

The involuntary clenching, grinding, and gnashing of the teeth is known as bruxism. About 50% of people occasionally engage in it. An estimated 5% of people regularly grind their teeth firmly. Many people grind their teeth while they are asleep, but some people do it while they are awake.

Most of the time, a person is unaware that they grind their teeth when they are asleep. Frequently, the first person to notice the issue is the bed mate who hears the grinding noises at night . It may also be audible to parents in their sleeping children. Stress might cause people to grind their teeth. For instance, some people clench their teeth when they are agitated, trying to concentrate, or anxious.
