Qantas flight QF102 bound for Sydney has been forced to turn back to Fiji after fumes from an oven were reported in the cabin. Today host Sarah Abo asks former Qantas Richard de Crespigny the hard questions on whether the airline’s engineering and technical teams are up to scratch, after Qantas recorded the fifth plane turn-back in a week.
Qantas flight QF102, bound for Sydney from Nadi International Airport in Fiji, was forced to turn back mid-flight due to fumes in the cabin. According to reports, pilots on the Boeing 737 aircraft requested a priority – not emergency – landing. Passengers were provided with updates throughout the flight and were able to disembark safely upon arrival at Nadi International Airport.
The incident is the fifth time in recent months that a Qantas service has been forced to turn back due to technical issues or safety concerns. The airline is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fumes and will provide further updates as they become available.
Qantas has apologized for any inconvenience caused by this incident and is offering affected passengers alternative flights or full refunds.
