Vladimir Putin claims Russia is ready to negotiate over the war in Ukraine. He has again accused Kyiv, and the west, of refusing to engage in talks but Ukraine says it’s Russia that doesn’t want peace. Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated that he is ready to enter into negotiations, claiming that Ukraine and the West have refused to engage in meaningful talks.
According to a Kremlin statement, Putin asserted that the West is trying to break up Russia while also accusing Kyiv of turning down opportunities at dialogue. In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held firm to his position, countering by stating that Moscow must come back to reality and cease taking steps whose goal is “to make the rest of 2022 dark and difficult.” Ukrainians politicians have repeatedly implored for diplomatic action, but it appears those efforts simply remain unanswered. Whether or not further progress can be made politically in this ongoing conflict remains uncertain for now.
