Minister for Resources and Health, Scott Stewart has urged Queenslanders to practise gas and barbeque safety this festive season. “I want Queenslanders to stay safe when using gas this summer”. Minister for Resources Scott Stewart is explaining how crucial safety checks on portable gas appliances are.
“It’s about making sure you check the manufacturer’s instructions, that you check that the bottle is actually safe and secure and fitted properly and make sure you check for those particular leaks.”
How To Clean and Maintain Your BBQ Grill For Maximum Safety
The summer months are a perfect time to get outside and enjoy some fresh air and good food with family and friends. Grilling on your BBQ or Barbie is a great way to make sure everyone can have the meal they’re looking for, but it’s important to ensure your grill is properly maintained for maximum safety. Here’s how you can clean and maintain your grill for maximum safety:
1. Remove Grease From the Grates: Before you start cooking, remove any grease or debris from the grates of your grill. This helps prevent flare-ups when cooking, as well as ensuring that you don’t get any nasty flavors in your food. To do this, use a wire brush and scrub the grates until they are clean. If there is a lot of buildup on the grates, you may need to use an oven cleaner or degreaser to help loosen it up before scrubbing.
2. Clean Out the Burners: The burners on your grill are responsible for providing heat when cooking; therefore, it’s important that they stay clean so that they can function properly. After each use of your grill, take some time to carefully inspect each burner and remove any dirt or debris that may have built up over time. If necessary, use a toothbrush or pipe cleaner to help with this task.
3. Check Your Ventilation: Poor ventilation can lead to flare-ups or carbon monoxide poisoning from build-up in your grill’s chamber due to inadequate air flow; therefore, it’s important that you regularly check the vents in order to make sure that air is able to flow freely through them at all times. Additionally, check for any blockages such as leaves or twigs which may be preventing air circulation around the vent openings; if necessary clear these away with an appropriate tool such as a vacuum cleaner hose attachment or pliers depending on what type of obstruction it is
4. Inspect Your Gas Tank: It’s essential that you inspect your propane tank regularly in order to make sure it isn’t leaking gas into your home environment – even small leaks can cause fires if left undetected! To check for any minor leaks take some soapy water and spray over all areas of connection between the tank itself and its associated pipes/hoses; if bubbles appear then there could be an issue which requires further investigation such as replacing seals etc
5. Regularly Clean Out Grease Traps: Grease traps should be cleaned out after every barbeque session in order prevent build-up which could lead onto fire hazards; this process involves removing all excess grease from within the collection tray by either wiping down with paper towels/rags (if still liquid) or scraping off hardened bits with a spoon/knife (if solidified). Once emptied out ensure all surfaces are dried off before reassembling parts back together again
By following these steps regularly when cleaning and maintaining your grill will greatly reduce potential hazards when using outdoors during summer months! Not only will you be helping yourself but also those around by providing safe barbeque sessions – so why not put these tips into practice today?
