Sky News host Peta Credlin explains the 26-page Uluru Statement from the Heart, the Voice to Parliament’s Yes campaign does not want Australians to see.
“Now I suspect the PM has never actually read it – after all, Bill Shorten was the Labor leader at the time the Uluru Statement from the Heart was made,” Ms Credlin said.
“But whether he’s read it or not doesn’t matter, because that’s Albanese has committed to implement in full, that’s what Albanese has committed to, in full.
“In politics, it’s not the conspiracy that gets you, it’s the cover-up, and there’s been one almighty cover-up here from the top of the government right to the Prime Minister, and down to sections of the media, to let you think that the Uluru Statement is just a benign little one-pager.
“It’s not … All Australians need to read and understand the full Uluru Statement before the vote.”

In a recent interview with Sky News, Peta Credlin, a prominent Australian political commentator, has challenged Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s stance on the Uluru Statement from the Heart. Credlin asserts that it is “undeniable” that the Uluru Statement is more than just one page, contrary to what the public has been led to believe.
The Uluru Statement from the Heart, which emerged from a historic gathering of Indigenous leaders in 2017, calls for a “First Nations Voice” to be enshrined in the Australian Constitution, as well as a Makarrata Commission to oversee truth-telling and treaty-making processes.
Credlin argues that the document extends far beyond a single page, contradicting popular misconceptions perpetuated by some politicians and media outlets. She cites multiple claims made by prominent signatory Megan Davis, an esteemed legal scholar and co-chair of the Uluru Dialogue, as well as the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA).
According to Credlin, Davis, a key figure in the development of the Uluru Statement, has repeatedly emphasized the importance of understanding the full scope of the document. Davis herself has criticized the dissemination of misinformation and the misrepresentation of the Uluru Statement as a simple one-page document.
Furthermore, Credlin highlights the alleged influence exerted by the government on the NIAA, accusing them of succumbing to pressure and falsely presenting the Uluru Statement as a concise and limited text. She contends that this mischaracterization undermines the intended significance and impact of the statement.
The controversy surrounding the length and depth of the Uluru Statement has sparked a heated debate among politicians, Indigenous leaders, and the public. Credlin’s assertion challenges the prevailing narrative that the Uluru Statement is a brief and straightforward proposal.
Critics of the Uluru Statement argue that it is too ambitious or impractical, while supporters believe it represents a vital step towards reconciliation and recognition of Indigenous rights. The differing interpretations and perceptions of the document have fueled ongoing discussions about the path to meaningful reconciliation in Australia.
As the debate continues, it is crucial to examine the Uluru Statement from all angles, considering the perspectives of both its proponents and skeptics. The voices of Indigenous leaders, such as Megan Davis, and commentators like Peta Credlin, offer valuable insights into the complexities surrounding this significant issue.
The Prime Minister has yet to respond directly to Credlin’s claims, leaving the public eagerly awaiting further developments and clarification on the length and content of the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
