Meteoroid spotted behind 9News weather presenter on live TV

While reporting the weather forecast ahead of the State of Origin, a meteoroid was spotted behind 9News Queensland weather presenter Gary Youngberry.

Garry Youngberry is a weather expert who rarely misses a thing. As the 9News Queensland weather presenter since 2009, he has reported on a wide range of extreme weather conditions, including cyclones, floods, drought, and intense afternoon storms that the Sunshine State is notorious for.

However, tonight was an exception. While he wasn’t specifically tracking weather patterns, he did overlook something significant in the Brisbane skies. Bundled up in a Maroons scarf and beanie to combat the unusually chilly 8-degree wind chill factor, Youngberry had just begun updating Queenslanders on their forecast when a meteoroid streaked across the sky behind him.

From his vantage point above Caxton Street, just a few hundred meters from where the State of Origin decider would take place later that evening, the shooting star was clearly visible as it fell over Brisbane’s western suburbs. It wasn’t until later, though, that someone in the newsroom pointed out the falling space rock.
