In a terrifying incident in Melbourne’s west, a 64-year-old woman narrowly escaped being caught in the crossfire of a shooting as gunmen allegedly targeted a man walking past her residence.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:45 pm on Wednesday at a home on Monticiano Rd in Fraser Rise. The woman was innocently cooking dinner in her kitchen when a bullet pierced through her ceiling, indicating the close call she had with potential tragedy.
According to Victoria Police, the intended target of the shooting was a 32-year-old man who was walking his dog along the footpath outside the woman’s home. As the man made his way to a nearby dog park, two individuals wearing balaclavas reportedly emerged from a blue Audi S3 and unleashed a barrage of up to 20 shots in his direction.
Fortunately, the targeted man managed to evade the gunfire unharmed, fleeing from the scene as the alleged gunmen sped away in the Audi. Subsequently, authorities discovered the burnt-out remnants of the vehicle on Viridian Dr in Hillside.
In a potentially related development, a red Commodore was found ablaze on Parsley St in Caroline Springs, prompting police to believe it may be connected to the shooting incident.
Eyewitnesses described the harrowing scene, noting how the targeted man swiftly reacted to the danger by leaping over a fence and making a quick escape. Despite the chaos, the man reportedly suffered only minor injuries, likely limited to a sore knee.
