Billions of dollars to go towards Queensland’s cost of living in state budget

Billions of dollars will flow to Queenslanders to help ease the cost of living, as promised by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk ahead of the budget announcement.  On Tuesday 13 June 2023, the Queensland Budget for 2023-24 was released. It included a record $8.2 billion in concessions funding to help ease cost of living pressures for Queenslanders.

The package includes a range of measures such as discounts on electricity bills, free public transport for seniors and pensioners, and increased funding for schools and hospitals.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the budget was about looking after Queenslanders who needed it most. “This is about making sure that those who need help the most get it first” she said.

Treasurer Cameron Dick said the budget was designed to give Queenslanders more money in their pockets and create jobs across the state. “We are investing in our people, our communities and our economy to ensure we can continue to build a better future for all Queenslanders” he said.

The budget also includes an interactive map of initiatives, programs and capital expenditure that form part of the State Budget – Budget Map – which can be accessed online at https://budgetmap.treasury.qld.gov.au/.

The Palaszczuk government has drawn battlelines ahead of the 2024 election with this budget announcement, with both sides of politics now having their own vision for how they would manage the state’s finances if elected into government next year.
