Australian rescue team heading to Turkey’s earthquake zone to help with search for survivors

72 Aussie specialists, including many from New South Wales Fire and Rescue, will fly out to the disaster zone to assist in search and recovery.

The Australian Government has recently announced that they will be sending a 72-member search and rescue team to Turkey’s earthquake zone to help with the search for survivors. The team consists of highly trained specialists from New South Wales Fire and Rescue, and will be arriving in the disaster zone by the end of the week.

The team is being sent as part of Australia’s Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) program, which has been deployed following numerous disasters including Tropical Cyclone Yasi in 2011 and the Greece wildfires in 2018.

Once on site, the team will assist local authorities in their ongoing search and rescue operations, providing medical assistance to those affected by the earthquake. Foreign Minister Penny Wong has also reported that four Australians who were in the region remain unaccounted for.

Australia is no stranger to responding to natural disasters around the world, having used advanced response technology such as satellite technology, contracted equipment, an emergency towage vessel, and four jet aircrafts to respond to calls for help.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this devastating event.
