Australia Marks Remembrance Day

Australia Marks 106 Years Since Armistice with Somber Remembrance Day Ceremonies

Remembrance Day services were held across Australia, honoring those who have died in conflicts and peace-keeping operations. The ceremonies coincided with the 106th anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I, a conflict that claimed the lives of 60,000 Australians.

A minute’s silence was observed at 11am, marking the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the war ended and guns fell silent across the Western Front.

In Canberra, a ceremony was held at the Australian War Memorial, attended by prominent figures including Governor-General Sam Mostyn, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Defence Force Chief Admiral David Johnston, and the memorial’s chairman, Kim Beazley.
