Australians paying more money for the same internet speed as the NBN has hiked the prices of its home broadband services by as much as $9 per month yet the speed metrics continue to be the same, leaving Australians paying more and getting less.
The National Broadband Network’s (NBN) plan costs are rising without a corresponding expansion in service capacity, according to the country’s consumer watchdog. According to the most recent Communications Market Report from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the price increase was observed across all speed tiers.
High-end and very high-end plans grew by 9%, or $9 per month, while fixed entry-level NBN plans climbed by 3.6%, or $2.50 per month, and middle-of-the-road plans increased by 4.7%, or $4 per month, in 2021–22 compared to the previous financial year.
