Annastacia Palaszczuk to push for national gun register in 2023

Annastacia Palaszczuk will push for a national firearms register when national cabinet meets in the new year. The premier says the Queensland government wants to see gun ownership recognised in states outside an owner’s home state. “I think everybody would welcome anything we can do to tighten up gun laws even further.”

Annastacia Palaszczuk, the premier of Queensland, promised to bring up the change at national cabinet, and her counterpart from New South Wales, Dominic Perrottet, gave her in-principle support.

Following the deadly shooting of two Queensland police officers and a neighbour in Wieambilla this week, there is a renewed drive for a national forearms register. This week, the premiers of Queensland and New South Wales supported the Queensland Police Union’s repeated call for the implementation of a national gun registry, which was initially suggested 35 years ago.
